derrick carters seminal sound patrol album originally released in 1994, * sweetened - no lemon*, will see a re-release in january 2016. the alias provided a place for carter to explore deeper and sometimes more atmospheric styles. the sound patrol record originally came out via chicagos organico label, while derrick carters own arts & labour is handling the reissue. the triple vinyl re issue adds four new unreleased tracks. the whole album has been re mastered for 2016. this follows a limited edition sampler 12 inch released in 2015 which contained another 2 unreleased tracks.

tokyo touch down: ovum welcomes one of japans most consistent techno producers in recent years ryogo yamamori. the man behind the well-respected 951 imprint and a dj schedule that frequently sees him demonstrating dark strategies from korea to canada, ryogo makes his ovum debut with a tight tech triptych

italian dj and producer manuel fogliata hasnt released a lot of records over the last ten years, but the few he has put out have always been worth tracking down. perhaps best known for his work alongside donato dozzy in creating the much sought-after aquaplano records at the tail end of the last decade, nuels solo outings have been just as consistent and just as impressive.

after the success of the first release by ivan iacobucci, holic trax sublabel monoklo now enlists berlin-based martin lewis for three hot tracks featuring a remix from label boss man and japanese don tomoki tamura. no nonsense opener the wax is a supple, rubbery roller with sparse stabs accompanying the infectious groove. -poetry- then sinks down into a more warming and human groove, with smeared synths bringing colour and heat to a loose house groove, before lewis shows his skills at choppy techno with drumcatch. tomoki tamura also remixes this latter track, stripping it right back to a suggestive, infectious final groove with feather light percussion, skewed chords and involving sub bass that laps at the heels of the track.

dripping out of the pores of tokyo high-rises, aquarium deepspace serves up his debut vinyl release and the second instalment on natural sciences. drawing on a palette of 90 s detroit house music and the electronic tropes of his home town of japan, midnight at the tokyo central is the unspoken soundtrack for the lost souls of the metropolis, recounting the ecstasy of smoke-filled dance-floors, the touch of dry ice melting through a fur coat, and travelling through neon at 6am. narrated by two separate protagonists under one identity, deepspace side explores muscular acid trax, aquatic pads and throbbing deep house jams for the floor, while aquarium on the flip is coated in hazy electronics and dopamine drained murk, drawing on field recordings taken at tokyo s central train station (rainy night in shibuya) through to lush subterranean jams laced in serotonin nostalgia.

by now, we ve come accustomed to tabernacle records exploring the outer reaches of detroit-influenced techno, electro and ambient. even so, their latest outing from regular contributor jeremiah r is something special. beginning with the floatation tank-in-space ambience of chorus, calisto sees the producer laying down a whopping eight cuts that variously touch in drexciyan electro, artificial intelligence-era idm, and hard-to-define hybrids that confirm the intergalactic potential of electronic music. interestingly, the music is roughly equally split between horizontally inclined, beat-less explorations, surging dancefloor workouts, and the kind of mid 90s home listening fodder that sits somewhere in between.

zaquoir alias matthias groß is a producer and musician currently living in leipzig. after sending us more than 10 gigabites of great music, we sat down together and tied a selection of his really eclectic styles of production together into one lp, creating some sort of showreel created in the timespan of over 15 years. zaquoir himself sees the record as a reminiscent mood of a donkey in the sardinian sun and describes the record as a trip in itself, allowing the listener to traverse the lines of various acoustic landscapes. the tracks on the lp where produced in six different places, including a historic house in the centre of vilnius, the artist residency blumen in leipzig, a french-german art association and a village in northern bavaria.

french producer juliano delivers the next ep, entitled * this must be...*, on his own imprint * that place records*. fourth in line on the label, following on from releases from visitors for reworks, mzkbx (aka sacha mambo) and love comedy, the now berlin-based artist gifts his very first ep to the collection. as a dj, juliano has spent the last 13 years honing his craft - first cutting his teeth holding down a residency at l ambassade, and then going on to play all over france and throughout europe. over a decade of digging and spinning has led juliano to develop a refined palette and a knack for finding tunes that make the dance floor bounce. strongly influenced by us house, * panaugust* is a real dance floor killer with its never ending synth. the more emotional * anthem for a friend* is a real tribute, drawing inspiration from chicago and detroit such as the real mess with its special rhythm & blues vibe. finally, cupid mess brings a touch of japanese mood, evoking images of an early-morning rising sun thanks to the classic juno6 sound. julianos ethos is that music should stay fun - preferring to keep things simple, but always real. watch out for this one.

can t joke with dexy is the opener here and is a bumpy, edgy house cut with tense and nervy keys jangling above a roughshod drum line. it grows ever more dark and comic and things roll on before faith is a more breezy, airy house groove. the drums here dance a nimble dance, thin synths and emotive chords all come in rich layers and a lo-fi percussive line proves how frey can conjure up idiosyncratic sounds with ease. like its title suggest, ghosts is a hauntingly atmospheric track with icy hi hats, pixel thing and hugely melancholic chords and harmonic bells all adding a sense of calm and serenity to turbulent drums deep down below. lastly, scale is a sub 100bpm crawler with fat elastic synths strung up between lazy kicks. two filtered spoken word lines add plenty of weirdness to this soupy bit of cosmic seduction and round out an ep that is stuffed with fresh ideas and great sonic invention.

tired of just rumbling low ends and mindless battering, stefan vincent points us in a more melodic direction. a rather melancholic and dystopian one, showing off his understanding of harmonics and tone sections. these compositions in minor and major hint towards equally feeling, futuristic atmospheres in which human kind is more and more affected by its unsatisfiable hunger for technology and perfection. guided by the terrifying beauty of this vision, stefan takes us on a four track tour through this world. a world in which we will have become merely observers of ourselves and we can only be let down. we can only watch as we rise towards being doubtful sentients. we can only listen as we wait for the machines to catch up with us.

one year has passed since the pilotwings’ first output « agorespace ». expectations went further in 2015 as they contributed to the rave-ish j-zbel project. the pair is now back on bfdm with another ode to rurality and old-fashioned analogue. including 4 tracks, « molitor 71 » goes deeper into retrofuturist nostalgia and bucolic mood. a1 31 septembre (on va tout niker) introduces full-on panflute melodies and uplifting korg exotica. as the trancy chicago dream fades out, a2 les invasions babar unveils its weird combo of electro beats and massive patrick cowley-esque synths. unplanned bass moves lead this jam while an undertaking voice calls for no less than « the greatest experience of your life ». things settle down on the nocturnal b1 congo libre. focus on breakbeats and sophisticated rhythms evokes trance beats, while sparkling synths emerge from everywhere. the ep ends up with a floating ambient piece called buruganda ouverture and designed for the listener to rediscover the meaning of his existence. molitor will give you faith in humanity and flutes again.
